His father Prince Jorge Bagration was born in Rome, but his heritage lies in Georgian royalty. Georgia became independent of the Soviet Union in 1991 after centuries of oppression by the Mongols, the Turks, the Persians and finally the Russians, but throughout their turbulent history, the Bagration dynasty retained royal status even if no political power.

The Bagration Dynasty retained and enjoyed its royal status even though with no political power during the turbulent history of Georgia.

Prince Jorge Bagration was an international motoring enthusiast. His achievements in the world of motorsports include Spanish Touring & Specials Champion 1969, and Spanish Rally Champion 1979, 1981 and 1982.
